Wharby Documentation
Welcome to the Wharby documentation portal. Wharby is a fully managed Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform that brings Google's Gerrit code review engine to software teams without the operational complexity of hosting, scaling, or managing Gerrit infrastructure.
Quick Navigation
- Getting Started: Step-by-step walkthrough to provision your dedicated tenant pod and complete owner onboarding.
- Working with Gerrit (For Developers): Guide to change-based reviews, installing
commit-msghooks, Change-IDs, pushing patchsets, and Gerrit voting. - Working with Gerrit (For Administrators): Managing project access permissions, installing custom JAR plugins into
site/plugins, and configuring CI webhooks. - Bidirectional GitHub Sync: Bridging GitHub pull requests, reporting commit status scorecards, and automated merges.
What is Wharby?
Wharby connects your existing Git repositories (on GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket) with an isolated, cloud-hosted Gerrit instance.
Why Gerrit?
- Patchset-Driven Reviews: Rather than reviewing sprawling branch diffs with dozens of unrelated commits, Gerrit breaks changes down into atomic, cherry-pickable patchsets.
- Intra-Line Diffs: Precise character-level diff highlighting makes subtle regressions obvious at a glance.
- Sub-Second Performance: Dedicated Git backend over native SSH (
:29418) and HTTPS. - Explicit Approval Rules: Configurable label scorecards (
Code-Review +2,Verified +1) ensure changes meet high quality bars before submit.
Official Gerrit Resources
Wharby runs standard, upstream Google Gerrit 3.x. For deep dives into upstream Gerrit features and configuration:
